Wood
Wood is the only one of the basic textures that defaults to colors that are not black and white. This is prob-
ably because the primary use for this texture is to create simple wood materials. As with the other textures,
there are controls for two color values (which default to varying shades of brown) and corresponding alpha
values (for transparency). This texture features more options than many of the other procedural textures, but
they are relatively self-explanatory. Ring Scale gives simple adjustment over the size of the texture. Wav-
iness and Wave Scale control the distorted variations in the ring texture. Graininess and Grain Scale give
roughness to the surface and break up the smooth gradation between the Ring Color and Filler Color. Al-
though the materials created with the Wood texture are rarely photorealistic, the precise control over scale,
coloration, and distortion make this an excellent choice for creating the look of wood on secondary surfaces.
