In-Depth Information
dragging downward divides the viewport into two views stacked on top of each other (with the new view-
port at the bottom). Dragging to the right creates a new viewport to the right. In this manner, the screen
can be divided into any configuration imaginable. From here, a right-click on that same small circle al-
lows you to duplicate, detach, delete, or perform other operations to further customize your workflow. If
you get things too messed up, you can always return to the default setup by going to the Layouts section
of the Layout menu and choosing 501 Default Layout.
Figure 13-6: Adjusting the camera at frame 75 to keep the subject well centered will help smooth out the
animation.
Turntable Animation
Although there is a turntable option under the Render menu, it is actually a holdover from previous versions
of modo that have no animation capabilities, and it is not recommended for use to create turntable anima-
tions. Instead, a short setup will allow you to create more-predictable animations with a lot more control.
The bottle can be animated directly just by selecting it (in Items mode) and animating its properties. This
will usually yield decent results, but another method offers more flexibility and also illustrates some ways
of creating more-complex animations later on. Locators (or nulls in some other 3D programs) are items that
can be used for grouping, organizational, and animation purposes. By creating and animating locators, you
are able to more easily control your animation and expand your options in the future. To create a locator,
move to the Items list and select Locator from the Locators section of the Add Item menu. This places a
locator in your scene at the origin (see Figure 13-7 ).
Because you want to make sure that the rotation happens from the center of the bottle, the locator needs
to be aligned to the center of the bottle. This ensures that the bottle will not rotate awkwardly off-axis when
it is attached to the locator. To do this, you will use the Work Plane and its ability to align to any portion of
the scene:
1. Select the bottle mesh layer and go to Polygons mode.
