In-Depth Information
Review
This chapter has covered the fundamentals of creating an outdoor scene. Even though the exercise is specific
to architectural visualization, the same techniques can be used for many other applications. The clean tex-
tures designed here can easily be customized with grime and wear to create a less ideal and more realistic
look. Outdoor lighting and HDR environments can be used to showcase other types of models beyond ar-
chitecture. After reading this chapter and practicing the exercises, you should be able to do the following:
• Use and adapt preset content for your projects
• Create material presets for architectural purposes
• Use basic fur materials
• Apply replicators to a scene to add objects with random scale, position, and coloration
• Use high dynamic range images for lighting purposes
• Light using Physical Sun and Sky
• Combine multiple environments to gain control over lighting, reflections, and backdrop
Where to Go from Here
Using preset lighting and textures can be helpful for learning and for creating quick projects, but taking your
own source photography will allow you to get exactly what you need for your project. Start taking your own
photographs for texture creation, photo backgrounds, and even HDR environment creation (all you need is a
chrome ball and a decent camera to start). In the next chapter, you will learn about extending texture creation
beyond the basics and how to improve your renders by post-processing in an image-editing application. You
can use your finished images from this chapter with those techniques to create more real, adaptable, and
compelling imagery.
