Hybrid Lighting
Each of the previous examples of lighting are great in certain situations, but the drawbacks are obvious, as
mentioned in each case. The best solution is to take the elements that make each technique work well and
implement those parts to make a complete light rig. The difficulty comes in aligning the Physical Sun ele-
ment with a photographic environment. Start by loading an environment that suits your needs and enabling
Physical Sun on the Directional Light. Using a guess and test method, aligning the lights can take a long
time, but there is a much easier way to do this:
1. Go to the Model tab.
2. Hide your main mesh layers.
3. In the viewport options menu (the middle button in the upper-left corner of the viewport), choose
GL Background Environment. This displays the HDR environment in the real-time viewport.
4. With the cursor over the viewport, press the O key to bring up the viewport options.
5. In the Item Visibility section of this pop-up menu, enable Show Lights. This will make your light
item visible in the viewport.
6. Adjust the Time parameter in the Directional Light properties (under the Physical Sun section) to get
close to the inclination of the sun in the environment.
7. Adjust the North Offset value to get the angle of the Directional Light to match the environment.
