Figure 11-29: A plane (divided into an 8x8 grid) and a preset rock are the necessary components of a rep-
licated series of rocks.
With these objects in place, you are ready to begin work on the replicator. To start, follow these steps:
1. From the Items tab, choose Add Item Duplication Replicator.
2. In the Replicator properties, choose the rock mesh layer as the Prototype.
3. Choose the Square mesh layer as the Point Source.
4. Leaving the rest of the settings at their defaults, the rock will be placed at each vertex in the square
grid. The replicated meshes will be represented as bounding boxes in the 3D viewports (as shown in
Figure 11-30 ) but will be rendered as complete objects in finished renders.
