Creating the Building Lot and Driveway
The building lot can be created with an edited plane. Start with a square in the same dimensions as the lot.
Add subdivisions where the sloped areas start and stop. You will need more subdivisions later, but these will
be enough to start the model of the land. Select the polygons that fall in the lowest area and move them down
to the appropriate position on the y-axis. You will probably notice that the ground between the garage doors
has a slope that creates a very unnatural contour in the terrain. Pulling some vertices in the area under the
house will help flatten out this problem area. If you want to make the area in the basement visible through
the windows, the ground in that section will need to be removed or placed below the basement floor. To
make this an area that can be cut out, add in loop slices that run in the middle of the walls and then cut out
the area that falls in the footprint of the house.
The last section of simple modeling is the driveway (which leads into the sidewalk and street). These
elements can be derived from the geometry at the base of the garage doors. Select the polygon below the
larger garage door and bevel it out, away from the house. Create a set of bevels that align somewhat with
the second garage door and use the Bridge tool to attach the two sections. To create the rounded section of
the driveway, do the following:
1. Cut out the polygon at the end of the straight section of the garage.
2. Paste the polygon in and rotate it 90ยบ.
3. Move the polygon to the position where the driveway straightens out and goes to the street (make
sure the polygon is facing foreword).
