In-Depth Information
The roof can be completed in a manner similar to the floors and ceilings. Since the roof on this model
is uneven, it cannot be closed with the placement of a simple n-gon. Instead, use the Bridge and Edge Ex-
tend tools to fill in the space. This geometry will almost never be seen, so it can be blocked together rather
roughly. You are filling the space to create a solid structure for lighting purposes. When you have completed
the underside of the roof, select the top polygons (the ones that are diagonally oriented and the flat polygons
that connect them). Copy these polygons and paste them into a new layer. You will use these later for creat-
ing roofing tiles. The base structure is completed, and the rest of the elements of the scene can be added.
Adding Secondary Structures
After completing the main bulk of the model, you can turn your attention to the smaller details in the scene
such as pillars, chimneys, deck, exterior stairs, driveway, and the building lot itself. Some of these items,
such as the pillars, can be created with very simple geometry, while other parts are essentially groups of
primitive objects. It is important to break down the objects and categorize them so that they can be created
quickly and efficiently. There is no use wasting time building objects that can be created with simple models
with creative materials or modeling objects that exist as preset meshes (or can be derived from presets).
