In-Depth Information
Continue to attach the edge shown in Figure 10-9 to the main piece. The edges are already snapped into
position, but the polygons in the main section need to be deleted. Before these polygons can be deleted, a
missing edge needs to be added. Using the Edge Slice tool (C), connect the open edge through the next two
polygons (terminating at the top of the roof, as shown in Figure 10-10 ). Once these edges are added, select
the polygons where the sections will be attached and delete them. Then select the three edges on either side
of the open space and use the Bridge tool to close the gap, as shown in Figure 10-11 .
As you continue to attach the remaining pieces to the base model, remember to simplify the geometry as
much as possible before attaching edges and vertices via the Bridge and Join tools. This allows you to create
a clean, even base model before adding details. Figure 10-11 shows an example of how a selection can be
simplified before attaching the piece to the rest of the model.
Be creative as you attach the geometry pieces to make the completed basic structure and remember to
minimize your polygons as much as possible. A few n-gons will not cause any problems, and the roof will
soon be detached, so there is no need to carry slices through the roof when adding edges to walls. Figure
10-12 shows the mesh with all of the pieces combined into a single continuous model.
Figure 10-10: Adding an edge through these polygons will set up the geometry to connect to the secondary
piece.
