8. At this setting, the material will get very dark, so increase the Background Value to 75%.
At this point, the added layer will be more blended and will cause only a gradual shift in the diffuse
amount over the surface, as shown in Figure 9-31 .
Figure 9-31: The concrete floor material is created and given some modulation to break up the pattern by
using a subtle procedural layer.
Creating Walls
The principle behind creating the walls is much like the technique used to create the carpets. You can design
a basic wall material and then use selection sets to add variation in color, texture, or other attributes. For the
basic material on the walls, leave a simple color (in the material). Adding a small variation in the Diffuse
Amount settings allows you to add different colors to the individual rooms or accent walls without setting
up any additional properties besides a simple Constant color layer. To add a textured finish to the walls, two
procedural layers need to be added and adjusted slightly. Here is the way to set up the texture:
1. Add a Dirt procedural layer (Add Layer Enhance: modo Textures Organic Dirt).
2. Set the Size to 250 mm on all axes.
3. Change the layer to Diffuse Amount.
4. Increase the Background Value to 40% (if the walls are too dark, this value can be increased as
needed).
5. Duplicate the Dirt layer.
