In-Depth Information
In some scenes, the look of unfinished wood may seem out of place. Using an unfinished wood texture
gives you the ability to adjust the colors in a simple way. Using a Constant texture with a dark saturated
color, high opacity (about 95%), and the Normal Multiply blend mode can provide excellent results. This
method will recolor the existing bare wood without completely blocking out the natural variance between
individual wood panels. In addition to setting the Diffuse Color with this Constant, adding an instance of
the layer and setting it to Specular Color will help to keep the look of the wood uniform. The only issue you
may find with this method is slightly more washed-out colors than you may anticipate. If darker colors are
desired, simply make a duplicate (or instance) of the Constant. Leave all of the settings the same as the ori-
ginal layer and decrease the Opacity to fade the effect. Figure 9-28 shows the recolored wood with a single
Constant on both Diffuse Color and Specular Color channels.
Figure 9-28: Constant layers can help change the color of a wood material without losing the variation of
the photographed wood.
