At this level, you can make a more direct comparison between pixels and polygons. In Photoshop, the
lasso selection uses a percentage value to decide whether a pixel will be included in the selection. In other
words, if more than half of the surface of the pixel falls into the selection region, it will be a part of the se-
lection. In this case, making a completely straight edge can be difficult because the selection area is judged
in such a qualitative way. Figure 9-2 shows the path of a quick boxlike selection, and Figure 9-3 shows the
actual selection that results. Granted, a more careful selection could be made, but in a workflow that often
includes repetition as a dominant feature, the need for surgical precision can really hamper creativity, pro-
ductivity, and the smooth evolution of a model.
