Creating Architectural Accents and Embellishments
There are several details that can help to complete and polish the look of the model. Doors and windows
need borders as well as geometry for the doors and windows themselves. There are also floorboards, crown
molding, and chair rails that can be added to create additional interest and detail.
Adding Doors and Windows
Beveling and using profiles can help to create doorframes and windowsills in short order. To illustrate, start
selecting the polygons for one doorway. Leave out the polygons on the bottom of the opening because these
are not needed. Copy these polygons (there should be five for each door) and paste them into a new mesh
layer. To create the geometry, a few steps can be repeated:
1. Double-click the polygons to select them all.
2. Use the Scale tool to make the polygons 25% thicker (this creates the overhang for the doorframe).
3. Flip the polygons (F).
4. Copy the polygons (Ctrl/Command+C)
5. Flip the polygons back to their original orientation (F).
6. Use the Bevel tool (B) to bevel the polygons inward (about 30 mm).
7. Select a simple profile from the Profiles section of the tool properties to add a contour to the bevel.
(I chose the very first one in the list.)
8. Paste the flipped polygons back into the scene.
