In-Depth Information
Before modeling at all, the reference image needs to be loaded and properly scaled. To get the image into
modo as a background image, do the following:
1.
Locate the image on your hard drive.
2.
Make the top viewport visible in modo.
3.
Drag the image from the hard drive into the top viewport. (This creates a new Backdrop Item).
4.
In the properties for the new Backdrop Item, enable the Invert and Blend options.
5.
Set the Transparency to about 60%.
This provides you with a semi-transparent blueprint. The inversion allows you to see the walls clearly
without a large amount of distraction. The Blend option antialiases the image in order to keep it smooth in
the viewport and to make it easier to view the image at different levels of magnification.

The blueprints loaded into the top viewport (right) are also visible in the perspective view

Before modeling can begin, the issue of scale needs to be resolved. Because there are no actual references
to specific dimensions, you will use other methods to get the proper scaling. Fortunately, modo ships with
some preset mesh items that help to properly align the scale. In the Meshes section of the presets, you will
find a doors section (inside the Architectural folder in the Interior category of meshes). Standard interior
doors range from 0.8 m to 1.2 m in width. The Door 02 preset is about in the middle of this range (and built
to scale). Add the door to the scene and then scale the background image to allow the door mesh to fit prop-
