In-Depth Information
These environments often come in sets with images for the reflections, lighting, and backdrops. Because
lighting can be simplified without loss of quality, an HDR image at low resolution with a heavy blur can be
used for lighting information. Because of the simplified lighting image, the Irradiance Rays can be signific-
antly reduced without loss of render quality. The previous example was reduced to 64 rays. Then a higher-
resolution HDR can be used for reflections and sometimes an even higher-resolution standard JPEG (low
dynamic range) can be used as a backdrop. If you have more interest in setting up and rendering with HDR
environments, a video on the enclosed DVD details their use.
