In-Depth Information
2. Click the + icon to the left of the name of the umbrella material. This selects those polygons and
nothing else.
3. With these polygons selected, open the UV Maps section of the Lists tab and click New Map.
4. Name the UV map appropriately and then select the UV Protection tool. Set the Projection Type to
Planar and the Axis to Z. Click anywhere in the UV Edit viewport to create the UV. It looks something
like Figure 7-4 .
The UV map will serve both to create and to place an image-based texture on the model.
5. To put this UV into an image editor such as Photoshop, go to the Texture menu and choose Export
UVs To EPS. The resulting EPS file can be opened in Photoshop. When opening, set the image size as
1024×1024.
In Photoshop, you will see a transparent background with thin lines where the edges lie on the UV map.
Using a few layer styles and the existing pixel data, an image map like the one shown in Figure 7-5 can
be created. If you have trouble creating an image like this, a short video on the DVD that is included with
this topic details the process. This will act as a map for both illumination and bump. Save the image as a
high-quality JPEG.
