Reflective Materials
Reflective materials offer similar challenges to opaque ones, but the increase in mirrorlike reflectivity results
in some additional concerns to deal with. Even a simple chrome material can be greatly improved with some
careful attention to detail. As you may have noticed, when you added the Fresnel value to the previous tex-
ture, you also decreased Diffuse Amount to keep a balance of around 100% total. So when you deal with
reflective materials, it is important to decrease Diffuse Amount accordingly (which may even mean turn-
ing it off). Depending on the brightness of the reflective environment, you may wish to decrease the total
amount below 100% (we actually used 80% as the baseline previously). Figure 6-30 shows a basic surface
with Diffuse Amount turned off completely and Reflection Amount set to 80%.
