Good modeling techniques are crucial to the creation of believable and compelling 3D artwork. Practicing
the techniques in this chapter will give you a firm starting point for many types of models. Deciding the ap-
propriate type of modeling (polygon, subdivision surface, or sculpted) will also enable you to approach the
job properly from the start. The key to many modeling tasks is identifying the basic forms and modifying
them to get the finished look. After practicing the techniques in this chapter, you should be able to do the
following:
• Adjust polygon models to prepare them for use as SubDs
• Create basic geometry by using PSubs
• Use multiresolution subdivision and sculpting tools to modify and detail simple models
• Model simple to complex geometry by using PSubs and edge weights
• Model simple objects with polygon creation and editing tools
