Because the weight value transitions smoothly between vertices, it is easy to get smooth blends between
creased and rounded geometry. As with other edge-editing techniques, the use of falloffs and Action Centers
will enable you to see complex results very quickly. The example shown in Figure 5-6 gives a good demon-
stration of using edge weights to quickly visualize concept designs. Once again, this form began as a simple
cube with a few subdivisions. The complex forms were created by adding additional subdivisions, moving
polygons into generalized areas to create the basic form, and then adding edge weights. The rendered images
show the flow of the finished form, and the weight map images show how these forms were created.
