stores has half a dozen branches in central Berlin, each
with a vast array of garments that range from hip
streetwear to glamorous, silky evening dresses. All tend

Exclusively designer clothes at massively knocked down
prices: most items are in top condition, though of course
many designs are a bit dated - which is half the fun for
vintage nuts.. You'll find a number of similar shops further

SOUVENIRS AND GIFTS

good source of offbeat Berlin memorabilia where classy
designs celebrate local life and culture- cookie-cutters
of the TV tower, brooms that look like the Brandenburg
Gate - along with stylish souvenir T-shirts. Mon-Sat

Postcards, cards and a wealth of gimmicky gifts. It's easy to
lose yourself here; when you've finished you can head over
the road to where another branch sells picture frames and
artworks. Mon-Sat 10am-8pm.
Ampelmann Galerie Hackeschen Höfe V, Mitte

Markt; map pp.72-73. Joyous celebration of the tra c-
light man (Ampelmann) that reigns supreme on the
eastern side of the city. After being threatened with
replacement by his svelte West Berlin counterpart he
became the subject of protests and a cult figure. Pick up
T-shirts, mugs, lights and the like at the original shop
here. Five other branches in central Berlin. Mon-Sat

Heimspiel Niederbarnimstr. 18, Friedrichshain T 030
20 68 78 70; U-Samariterstrasse; map pp.126-127. This
cute little store s always worth stopping by, offering a fresh
assortment of trendy women's clothing, kitsch Berlin-
themed postcards and games and locally produced
artworks. Mon-Fri 11am-8pm, Sat 11am-6pm.
Supalife Kiosk Raumerstr. 40, Mitte T 030 44 67 88
26; U-Eberswalder Strasse; map p.132. This funky
little boutique sells the wares of Berlin urban artists,
from comics and fanzines to silkscreen prints and
paintings. They're well connected to some of the city's
best-known artists, so expect one-offs too. Mon-Sat
noon-7pm.

ELECTRONICS, RADIOS AND RECORD PLAYERS

Electrical superstore with aggressively priced phones,
cameras, memory cards, iPads, computers and the like. This
is the most central of 15 Berlin branches. Mon-Sat
10am-9pm.
Radio Art Zossener Str. 2, Kreuzberg T 030 693 94 35;
U-Mehringdamm; map p.118. Fantastic and visually
satisfying shop for radio fans, musos and lovers of
nostalgia, with shelves brimming with vintage (and some
modern) radio sets and record players. Thurs & Fri noon-
6pm, Sat 10am-1pm.
TRAVEL EQUIPMENT
Globetrotter Schlossstr. 78-82, Steglitz-Zehlendorf

Steglitz; map p.152. Massive, well-stocked outdoor shop
with several gimmicks - a pool to try out kayaks, and a
-25°C freezer to try out jackets and sleeping bags. A bit of
a trek from the centre, but directly above the station.

DEPARTMENT STORES AND MALLS
There are no surprises inside Berlin's department stores and, with the exception of KaDeWe and Galeries Lafayette, they're
only worth popping into for essentials. The Stilwerk mall, however, is a classy place.

Surprisingly small, but packed with beautiful and
expensive things and including a food department with
