with punk-rock attitude, an international staff and
gigantic tasty burgers, spicy chicken wings, steaks,
hand-cut fries and so on. Mains €10-20, other dishes
around half that. Finish with a sumptuous cheesecake, if
you can manage it. Cash only. Mon-Sat 6pm-late,

Finer dining spot that's a little out of the way but worth it
for the authentic food and theatrics of the energetic
French chef Maurice. Service can be slow, so count on
spending the better part of an evening here, enjoying the
huge wine list with more than 200 varieties from France
alone. The
map p.132. This diminutive but buzzy burger hangout
lures locals back again and again with huge, delicious beef,
chicken, fish or vegetable burgers (the €5.50 Marienburger
is almost too big to eat in one sitting). Organic options

Bored with the usual Berlin brunch formula? Check
out Sundays at this smart-casual Italian restaurant,
where chefs dole out freshly baked lasagne and
salmon, tomato and mozzarella and other scrumptious
dishes, and diners gather at the long communal tables
outside. It's all organic and there are decent vegetarian
and vegan options. Ice cream, cakes and more are on
offer at the adjacent organic deli. Mon-Thurs 9.30am-
midnight, Fri 9.30am-1am, Sat 11am-1am, Sun

p.132. Long-standing Jewish-Russian restaurant, named
after the author of Doctor Zhivago , and best known for its
incredible Sunday brunch (10am-4pm; €13): a regal
spread of blini, caviar, fish and much more; it's so popular
you'll need to wake up early to find a seat (no reservations).
Evenings feature live piano music and fixed price menus.

traditional German dishes that spring a few surprises, as
well as some pasta and vegetarian options (€10-19). It's
also another excellent choice for a Sunday buffet brunch

using fresh, high-quality ingredients. Swift service ensures
this a serious contender for best sushi spot in the city. Mon,

value: two courses €10, three courses €15. Reservations

restaurant put on the map by Bill Clinton's surprise visit in
2000, and successful ever since. It serves inventive and
beautifully presented German, French and Alsatian food
(mains €8-18) - worth trying is the unusual Flammkuchen,
a thin-crust Alsatian pizza. Mon-Fri 4pm-1am, Sat &
Sun 10am-1am.

overpriced, but the Thai food, garnished with delightful
little sculpted vegetables, is excellent - tasty classics like
tom ka gai

traditional garb, are unfailingly polite. Mains €10-20.

p.132. Tucked away amid the slew of Imbisses and kebab
shops hereabouts, Maria Bonita stands out for above
average Mexican street food. You couldn't swing an
enchilada inside, but the burritos, tacos and quesadillas -
and the guacamole for that matter - are all winners.
