joint in a converted old Prussian public toilets, by the
elevated underground station at Schlesisches Tor, serving
fresh and delicious burgers (€2-3.50) that could hold their
own in far classier surroundings. There are a couple of
places to sit, but mostly it's standing room only and often

Russian café with 1920s-era dark red and gold décor,
serving Russian classics such as
(stew; €3), delicious
pelimi (dumplings; €4.50) and tea flavoured with jam - as
well as some great chocolate cake. Daily 4pm-late

served from a canoe - how could you refuse? Especially
when toppings include walnut, mango, feta and maple
syrup. The interior also features national emblems like a
moose head. Vegan options available. Mon-Fri noon-

Hawaiian-rockabilly themed joint with an unapologetically
kitsch interior and innovative menu. The breakfasts, served
until 5pm, feature items like the “Oi-Fast” - a heady mix of
scrambled eggs and chorizo (€7). There are veggie burgers
and - one for the serious rockers - a Lemmy burger grilled
in whisky. Strong cocktails, too. Mon-Fri 11am-late, Sat
& Sun 10am-late.

always a bit of a squeeze at this busy Indian restaurant,
where the huge portions are inexpensive (mains €8-15)
and delicious. Not the sort of place to linger after a meal;
reservations are recommended in the week and essential at
weekends. Daily noon-midnight.

themed pub overlooking a bucolic canal has been
transformed into a hip bar playing a mixture of techno and
easy listening. Great breakfast choices (served until 4pm)
with first-class French toast and a Mexican breakfast that
will tide you over until dinner. Usually packed by 11pm.

until 11pm).

the front or grab a comfy sofa in the back room. There are
several good breakfast options as well as yummy sandwiches
(€3-9), coffee and cakes. The owners play soul and funk vinyl
during the day, DJs play at weekends, and there are regular
bingo and crime TV nights. Daily 9am-2am.

place beside a leafy Kreuzberg park and as good a hangout
as it is a place to eat. Though it serves fish, everything else
is vegetarian, with plenty of tofu and seitan (wheat gluten)
on offer in anything from pizzas to salads; the fennel nut
salad is particularly good. Mains €8-12. Menus change
weekly. Daily 10am-2am.

- that's
some of the best in town, and at decent prices (mains
€5-12). The mixed plate for two is immense. Mon-Thurs
11am-midnight, Fri & Sat 11am-1am.

French cuisine is the mainstay here on the leafy banks of
the Landwehr canal, but other foods like pasta and
couscous also make an appearance, as do seasonal
ingredients including asparagus and globe artichokes.
