Korean widows who've festooned the walls with Biblical
slogans, this place is all about great home-style cooking.
Guests squeeze in to enjoy home-made noodles with
vegetables (€5) or seafood (€7.50) and the fiery, sizzling

p.113. Quirky restaurant that pays homage to the life and
work of inter-war Jewish writer Joseph Roth and adds a
splash of charm and colour to a fairly nondescript corner of
central Berlin. Very popular, with very reasonably priced
daily specials (€3.95-8), though the food is fairly basic.

U-Nollendorfplatz; map p.113. Though the ambience is
that of a German farmhouse, the food is pure Indian, with
dishes (€7-11) from every part of the subcontinent. It gets
packed out for the Sun buffet (noon-5pm; €9.90). Daily
noon-midnight.
Petite Europe Langenscheidtstr. 1 T 030 781 29 64;

that dishes up filling home-made pastas and stone-oven
pizzas (average €7) in an informal, lively atmosphere.

p.113. Rustic restaurant, with dark wood interiors and
white tablecloths covering long communal tables, serving
excellent cuisine from the Alsace region - a mix of French
and German. In spring, don't miss the dandelion salad with
lardons (€8); in winter, try the braised ox cheeks with
bacon-wrapped plums, turnips and mashed potatoes
(€18). Look out too, for wild boar. Mains €14-18. Booking
advised. Daily 6pm-1am.

p.113. This kitschy, raucous Greek taverna is a perennial
favourite. There are no real duds, so go wild with the mezze
menu (€4-7) and be entertained by the jolly staff.

will take you straight back to the 1950s, with Hawaiian-
style toast on the menu and Bing Crosby on the speakers.
The Bakelite radios and kidney-shaped tables aren't just for
decoration - most items are for sale. Tues-Fri noon-

map p.113. Once an apothecary, this café-chocolate shop
now serves a lovely selection of pastries to cure all ills.
Scones with clotted cream and jam and warm chocolate

tucked away on a sleepy residential street and the uno cial
headquarters for Berlin's slow food movement. The
antipasti spread at Sunday brunch (until 4pm; €12) is
legendary, while dried cod with polenta (€7.50) and squid
with baby chard (€15.50) satisfy the dinner crowd. The
terrace is a peaceful haven in summer. Mon-Fri from
6pm, Sat from 3pm, Sun brunch 11am-2pm, à la carte
from 2pm.

p.113. Huge portions of superbly cooked fresh Thai food
make this sumptuous place popular all week. Bearing in
mind the quality and authenticity - many family recipes
stem from Edd's gran (including the signature banana
blossom salad), who cooked in Bangkok's Royal Palace -
the prices are reasonable, with mains around €16-25.
