Private rooms are usually of a good standard in Berlin: clean and simple, often self-contained,
and offering quite a lot of privacy - you may barely see your hosts. Breakfast is sometimes
included, in which case you'll probably just be helping yourself to bread and what's in the
fridge. The typical charge for a private room is €25-35 per person per night, while monthly
rents for a self-contained apartment start at €400, or about €300 if you're prepared to share
kitchen and bathroom. Accommodation agencies tend to specialize in either short-term - up
to about a month - or long-term lets, for longer periods. In the case of the latter, there are
often agency fees to pay on top, to a maximum of 25 percent of the monthly rent.
