In-Depth Information
Almost all the state's headline attractions are southwest of Berlin in Potsdam , a
town whose size is effectively doubled by surrounding landscaped gardens dotted
with royal piles and follies, which include Frederick the Great's famous Schloss
Sanssouci . Meanwhile, just north beyond Berlin's fringes, the town of Oranienburg
is far less attractive, but equally absorbing as the site of former concentration camp
Sachsenhausen . For something completely different, the Tropical Islands complex , to
the south of Berlin, offers a fun day out where you can enjoy the waters and beaches
of warmer climes.
