Our host in the village
We then reached the impressive Roman ruins of Apamea, which had been built in the 2 nd
century B.C. and where at its peak, 500 elephants, 30,000 mares and 300 stallions had been
kept and where the population had been 500,000 at its peak. It had been one of the 4 main
cities of the tetrapolis of Syria.
