Next door to the Hilton, the
Galeries Victoria houses the
fantastic Kinokuniya book-
store, which sells a variety of
both Australian and American
imprints as well as Chinese
and Japanese language, anime
art books and stationery.
The Mooks store is packed
with designer streetwear for
men and women from the
eponymous label, as well as
international brands such as
G-Star and Camper.
Nearby in Pitt Street, the
marble and glass of Piccadilly
houses more than 40 stores
and flashy boutiques, includ-
ing quality jewellers.
The MLC Centre , which
faces onto Castlereagh Street,
and Chifley Plaza also cater to
the prestige shopper. Gucci,
Cartier, Tiffany & Co,
MaxMara, Kenzo are just
some of the shops here.
The Harbourside Shopping
Centre has dozens of shops,
plus several waterfront restau-
rants. The atmosphere is
festive and the merchandise
includes fine arts, jewellery,
duty-free shopping, beachwear
and Australiana.

The food hall on the lower
ground floor is famous for its
gourmet fare and fine wines.
The first David Jones store
opened in 1838, and they
claim to have the oldest
department store in the world
still trading under its original
name. Myer now operate 60
stores across Australia, and
their first store opened in
1900. The Myer store here in
Sydney has a ground floor
packed with makeup and
accessories, including a large
MAC counter. Both the
Sydney stores of these
famous chains sell women's
clothing, lingerie, menswear,
baby goods, children's
clothes, toys, stationery,
kitchenware, furniture, china,
crystal and silver.

snaring exclusive rights to

labels. The David Jones in
Sydney, or DJs, is legendary
for its spring floral displays, as
well as for its luxurious
perfumery and cosmetics hall

Good shopping areas outside
central Sydney are Balmain,
for village-style shopping;
Double Bay, with its chic,
though pricey, boutiques; the
