Chapter 4. Creating and Managing Virtual
Machines
So far, we have configured the entire required virtualization environment in order to create
your virtual machines on RHEV. In this chapter, will learn how to create Red Hat Enter-
prise Linux and Windows virtual machines from scratch on the RHEV infrastructure and
guest agents' installation to enhance the performance. Also, we will learn how to create vir-
tual machine templates so that you can use these templates to rapidly create a replica of the
original virtual machine, how to take virtual machine snapshots, and how to restore the vir-
tual machine from these snapshots. In the final section of this chapter, we will learn how to
back up your virtual machine using the export disks to move your virtual workloads from
one data center to another in the same, as well as the new, RHEV environment. We will
cover the following topics in this chapter:
• Virtual machines
• Creating Linux virtual machines
• Creating Windows virtual machines
• Virtual machine templates
• Creating Linux virtual machine templates
• Creating Windows virtual machine templates
• Using templates to create virtual machines
• Virtual machine snapshots
• Creating and restoring virtual machine snapshots
• Backing up your virtual machine to export domains
