Approving hypervisor hosts
We installed and configured RHEV hypervisor hosts and it's shown as waiting for approval
under the Hosts tab of manager admin portal, as discussed in the Configuring the Hypervi-
sor section of Chapter 2 , Installing RHEV Manager and Hypervisor Hosts . RHEV hypervi-
sor is specifically built for the hypervisor platform and it will come for approval automatic-
ally. Now we need to approve the host. You can also configure the hypervisor to add into
specific cluster of your data center in RHEV from the Host tab manually.
To approve a host, you have to perform the following steps:
1. Navigate to the Host tab, select the host, and click on Approve .
2. In the Edit and Approve Host screen, under the General section, select the data
center and the host cluster on which this hypervisor host is to be a part of, with
some optional comments.

3. Next, move to the Power Management section and select Enable Power Man-
agement and the type of Out of Band ( OOB ) power management your hardware
ships with, and fill in the required server remote management credentials.
This is mandatory if you are planning to enable high availability of a virtual ma-
chine on your environment. For example, say you have two hypervisor hosts run-
ning on a cluster. If any of the hosts goes into a nonresponsive state due to some
hardware failure, the other active hypervisor will try to recover the host by per-
forming a fence operation (hard reboot) using the server remote management cre-
dentials that we have configured, and restart the virtual machines marked Highly
Available on the other active hosts in the cluster.
4. Then, move to the SPM tab. Storage Pool Manager ( SPM ) is a role assigned to
one of the hosts in a data center, which will manage and control access to the stor-
