Installing the hypervisor
There are two methods to install hypervisor: interactive and unattended installation. We are
going to use the interactive installation to better understand the different configuration op-
tions to set up our first RHEV-H. To start the interactive installation, follow these steps:
1. Boot the hardware with the first boot option enabled as CD-ROM device with hy-
pervisors ISO image.
2. Boot screen splash with automatic boot in 30 seconds with the default kernel para-
meters. Press any key to modify it.
3. You can select any one of the options shown in the following screenshot that are
relevant to your environment since this is our new deployment. Select
Install Or
Upgrade
and then press
Enter
.
If you get any error such as virtualization extension not enabled, please make sure
the virtualization and NX flag are enabled in the system.
4. You can check whether the virtualization and NX flag are enabled from the in-
staller window instead of getting into BIOS by editing
Install or Upgrade
. Press
the
Tab
key and then add
rescue
to the kernel parameter and press
Enter
.
5. Once the hypervisor boots, you can verify the CPU virtualization flag by running
the following command:
# grep -E "svm|vmx" /proc/cpuinfo
Note
You will see some output if the virtualization flag is enabled in your processor.
Otherwise, you need to toggle it to ON from your BIOS settings. Please refer to
