Disabling the automatic virtual machine migration
There are a few use cases, such as using Red Hat's high-availability add-on inside the Red
Hat Enterprise Linux guest operating system for the application's high availability or
Cluster Suite on the RHEV infrastructure, where we need to disable the automatic virtual
machine migration. This can be achieved by pinning the virtual machine to run only on a
specific host. Pinning the virtual machine to run only on the selected host will prevent the
automatic live migration in the case of that specific host's failure.
To pin a virtual machine to a specific host, perform the following steps.
1. Log in to the
Administrator
portal, and navigate to the
Virtual Machine
tab.
2. Select the appropriate virtual machine, right-click on it, and select
Edit
.
3. In the
Edit Virtual Machine
window, select
Show Advanced Options
, as shown
in the following screenshot.
4. Move to the
Host
tab, select
Start Running On
, uncheck
Any host the Cluster
,
select the
Specific
radio button, and select the host from the drop-down menu.
5. Finally, under the
Migration Options
drop-down menu, select
Do not allow mi-
gration
, and click on
OK
.
