In-Depth Information
Once this is installed, restart Mozilla Firefox in order to connect to your virtual machines
using SPICE.
On Windows, the client's SPICE ActiveX component is required to connect to a virtual
machine console. When you access the virtual machine console for the first time from the
supported Internet Explorer ( IE ) running on your Windows client, IE will prompt you to
download and install the SPICE ActiveX component. Follow the onscreen instructions
and confirm the security warning to complete the installation.
Finally, restart IE to connect to your virtual machines using SPICE.
Once you configure the required resource in order to run virtual machine and graphical
console access from your client machine, it's time to the install the operating system on
these virtual machines.
To install the RHEL guest operating system, use the following steps:
1. Select your virtual machine and right click on it to select Run Once .
2. In the pop-up window, expand Boot Options and select the .iso image from the
Attach CD drop-down menu.
3. Optionally, you can customize Linux Boot Options to boot a Linux kernel direc-
tly instead of booting it through the BIOS boot loader for the custom kick-start-
based Linux installation.
4. The Initial Run section will allow you to enable cloud-init, which will allow you
to automate various functions such as the hostname, networking, and root pass-
word during the initial setup of the virtual machine. This will be quite handy if
you derive a new virtual machine from the existing virtual machine template in
order to prevent any network conflicts.
Note
To automate the initial configuration of a Linux virtual machine that has been
provisioned based on a template using cloud-init, you need to install a package
named cloud-init.
5. The Host section will further allow you to customize where you want to start this
guest. Also, there is an optional Display Protocol modification section and the
Custom Properties section.
6. After selecting all the required options, click on Ok to start the virtual machine.
Select your virtual machine, and right-click on it to select Console .
