PUERTO IGUAZÚ
PUERTO IGUAZÚ is an inevitable stop if
you're visiting Iguazú Falls (see p.88) on a
budget - it's a perfectly pleasant town with
all the facilities you need, if a little dull.
On the western edge of town, the Hito Tres
Fronteras is an obelisk overlooking the
rivers Iguazú and Parana at the point where
they meet and form the three-way border
between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
ACCOMMODATION
There are a number of big resort hotels near the falls,
but budget travellers stay in Puerto Iguazú, where there
are plenty of good hostels and inexpensive guesthouses.
In high season, July and around Easter, reservations are
recommended.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
By plane The airport is 25km southeast of Puerto Iguazú
( T 03757 422 013). Buses meet flights and run to the bus
terminal ( T 03757 422 962; AR$13 one-way).
CROSSING INTO BRAZIL
To make your trip to Iguazú Falls complete you should really visit the Brazilian side (see
p.353), where the view is more panoramic, and the photography opportunities are excellent.
There are no direct buses from Puerto Iguazú to the falls on the Brazilian side - you will need
to take one of the regular international buses marked “Brasil” from the main street or bus
station (AR$9), which will drop you at the border for immigration formalities. From the border
pick up another bus towards Foz, changing to yet another for the falls themselves. If time is
short, it's well worth considering sharing a taxi (approximately AR$180 return). Change some
Brazilian cash before you go, for bus fares and the like, and bear in mind that, from October to
March, Brazil is one hour ahead of Argentina.
