ACCOMMODATION
Most accommodation is within a couple of blocks of the
malecón, a generally safe part of town with lots of foot
tra c. Panadería El Centro and Rancho Andino also have
rooms (see below). Camping in the national park has been
banned in recent years, but if you are keen to do it contact
the Falcón State Inparques o ce ( T 0268 252 4198) to
enquire about the current policy.
Capri C Zamora T 0259 818 6026, E hotelcaprica
@yahoo.com. A proud boast from the friendly manage-
ment is that with eight water tanks on the roof, the
showers never run dry. Some rooms have psychedelic
beach-scene murals, while all come with en suite and a/c.
Wi-fi on site. BsF200
Morena's Place Sector Playa Norte T 0259 815 0936,
E posadamorenas@hotmail.com. Just one street in from
the beach, Morena's has the only dorms in town, making
this a good-value spot for solo travellers. A friendly
English-speaking family runs the place, and can prepare
meals on request. There's a laundry service, co mmuna l
kitchen, barbecu e and relaxed atmosphere. Dorms BsF80 ,
doubles BsF150
Posada La Negra C Mariño T 0259 815 0476. The place
to come if you need a bed or a haircut, La Negra is the
only posada-hairdressers you're likely to encounter on your
trip. Friendly, brightly coloured rooms around a communal
kitchen come with a/c, en su ite and TVs. There's a five-
person apartment for BsF300. BsF180
Ì Posada Villa Gregoria C Mariño T 0259 818 6359.
A secure Mediterranean-style building with coconut trees
in the wide courtyard, a profusion of hammocks and aloe
vera plants, useful if you've skimped on the sunscreen.
English-speaking staff provide spotless rooms (a/c, TV,
en suite) and showers, which although cold, amount to
more than pipes sticking out of the wall. Al so has a part-
ments for five (BsF550) and seven (BsF650). BsF200
EATING AND DRINKING
Chichiriviche's nightlife amounts to hanging around the
liquor stores while they're open and drinking on the
malecón when they're closed. Your best bet for a drink
in more relaxed settings is Txalupa (see p.884) and its
neighbouring seafront restaurants.
Panadería El Centro C Zamora opposite Hotel Capri
T 0259 818 6906. Now on the corner next to the old shop,
impressively moustachioed José serves up good coffee
and inexpensive bread. The mini cinnamon rolls, enormous
bags of crisps and bottled juices will be all you need for
a trip to the cays. Rooms available upstairs for BsF150,
with capacity for eighty people. Daily 7am-9pm.
Ì Rancho Andino C Mariño T 0259 815 0897. The
town's most chilled-out restaurant is positioned away
from the lancha touts and serves up excellent batidos
(BsF15). Manuel, the Colombian owner, stakes a claim to
the town's best pasta marinera (BsF60) and makes a
passable stab at a full English breakfast (BsF40). Rooms in
town are available for BsF100. Daily 8am-9pm, closed
Thurs in low season.
