DAY TRIPS FROM IQUITOS
For those who want to experience a bit
of the jungle without straying too far
from the city, there are several easy
day-trips from Iquitos. It's simple to
hop over to a nearby island for a taste
of landlocked beach life or to experience
wildlife in safe confines; at the Amazon
Animal Orphanage you'll be able to get
up close with many rescued jungle
species. The following sites can all be
done in a day or less, and the Iquitos
iPerú office has good maps of how to
get to them.

take a peke peke (river colectivo ) from
the Bellavista Nanay port in Iquitos
heading for Padre Cocha (S3; 20min);
once there, it's a fifteen-minute
signposted walk or a S1 motokar
journey. Some touts at Bellavista - in
order to get you to take a tour with
them - might tell you the place is shut
