In-Depth Information
Barranco is also trendy and the liveliest place to hang out
at weekends, while Miraflores has the highest concentra-
tion of cheap bars around the Parque Kennedy. Good
places for live music can be found in all three areas. As you
would expect, Friday and Saturday nights are the most
popular, and many bars and clubs only open on those days.
Most bars have Facebook pages to check what's on.

BARS AND CLUBS
The distinction between a bar and a club in Lima is often
blurred, as bars become dancefloors and stay open all
night. A good guide as to which is which is the opening
times - many of the clubs only open at weekends. Lima has
a fun and rapidly growing gay and lesbian scene; see W lima
.queercity.info for current information about what's on.

LIVE MUSIC
The great variety of traditional and hybrid sounds is one
of the most enduring reasons for visiting the capital.
The best place to go for an evening's entertainment is
a peña - a live music spectacular featuring many styles
of national song and dance with an MC, live band, some
audience participation and much dancing. Peñas are great
fun for all ages - they start late and the dancing can last all
night. The Lima versions are very expensive compared to
the rest of the country (you can pay up to S60 just to enter)
- so if you can't go here, be sure to seek one out elsewhere.

included are cheaper. Thurs-Sun from around 10pm.
SHOPPING
All types of Peruvian artesanía are available in Lima,
including woollen goods, crafts and gemstones. Some of
the best in Peru are on Av Petit Thouars, which is home to
a handful of markets between Av Ricardo Palma and Av
Angamos, all within easy walking distance of Miraflores
centre. Often considerably cheaper are the artisan markets
on blocks 9 and 10 of Av La Marina in Pueblo Libre, as well
