Recently refurbished, bright and often wild decor with animal

prints and textured materials, far more pleasant than other

options, with TV, breakfast, a/c and wi-fi. En-suite Gs180,000

Conveniently located right in front of the bus station, this

is the city's best-value budget option. It is basic (fans only,

no a/c and price does not include breakfast), but it's a good

place to g et your h ead down f for the night. Shared bath

Next to La Piccola Italia , and run by the same people, this

is the most consistent bar/disco in town and is always

popular. Open from 9pm.

Ì Hiroshima 25 de Mayo, cnr Lomas Valentinas, also

runs a pop-up restaurant by the beach in summer. What

this place lacks in character, it makes up for with good

service, fresh ingredients and excellent quality. Superb

selection of bento boxes. Mains Gs30,000-50,000.

La Piccola Italia Ruta 1, at Caballero. Faux Mediterra-

nean surroundings and a cheery Paraguayan/Italian host

at this popular trattoria. Pig out on huge portions of

quasi-authentic pizza and pasta - one plate is easily

enough for two. Mains Gs30,000.

EATING AND DRINKING

There are surprisingly good eating options in Encarnación,

thanks to its multicultural population. For cheap food fast,

the comedor (dining hall) behind the bus station has lots

of little restaurants with a central seating area, as does

La Placita indoor market. Encarnación's nightlife revolves

around one or two bars for most of the year, but during

the summer everything moves to the beach and there are

always new pop-up bars there.
