ARRIVAL AND INFORMATION
By plane The tiny airport is 5km out of town, on the
road to Torres del Paine. Some Sky Airline (Bulnes 682;
Mon-Fri 9am-1pm & 3-7pm, Sat 10am-1pm) flights
serve Santiago in the summer, but it's much more reliable
to fly on Punta Arenas. Taxis meet flights.
By bus Puerto Natales has no central bus station, with
buses departing from their company o ces. Services to
El Calafate (Argentina) and Torres del Paine only operate
Oct-April. Of the main players, Bus Sur (Baquedano 668)
serves Punta Arenas, El Calafate and Ushuaia; Buses
Fernández (Ramírez 399) serves Punta Arenas; Buses
Pacheco (Ramírez 224) runs to Punta Arenas and Ushuaia;
Buses Gómez (Prat 234) and Turismo Zaahj (Prat 236) to
Torres del Paine. Turismo Zaahj also runs to El Calafate
(daily 8am & 6pm; 5hr 30min).
Destinations El Calafate (2-3 daily; 5hr 30min);
Punta Arenas (hourly; 3hr); Río Gallegos (3 weekly; 5hr);
Torres del Paine (4-6 daily; Laguna Amarga 2hr 15min;
Pudeto 3hr 15min; Park Administration 3hr 15min);
Ushuaia (4 weekly; 14hr).
By ferry The Navimag ferry terminal (Pedro Montt 308
T 61 414300, W navimag.cl) is five blocks west of the
Plaza de Armas. MV Magallanes sails to Puerto Montt (Tues
4am, embark by Mon 9pm; from CH$200,000; 4 days).
Book a couple of weeks in advance in summer.
Tourist information Sernatur is at Pedro Montt 19, on
the shore of the Seno Última Esperanza (Mon-Fri 8.30am-
1pm & 2.30-6pm; summer also Sat & Sun 10am-5pm;
T 61 412125, W sernatur.cl), with very helpful staff. Erratic
Rock ( W erraticrock.com) at Baquedano 719 holds excellent
bilingual daily talks at 3pm at the Base Camp pub next door
on hiking in Torres del Paine, covering logistics as well as park
etiquette and required gear. If you want anything booked,
from bus tickets to tours to accommodation in Argentina,
look no further than the English-speaking Austral Glacier
o ce at Baquedano 695 (Mon-Sat 10am-1pm & 3-8pm,
