JAC, Tas Choapa, Andersmar and Cóndor Bus all share the
terminal at El Salvador 1093 ( T 65 234163).
Destinations Ancud (8 daily; 2hr 30min); Castro (8 daily;
4hr 30min); Puerto Montt (every 15-30min; 35min);
Santiago (6 daily; 18hr); Valdivia (2-3 daily; 3hr).
By minibus Those for Ensenada (1hr; CH$1200), Frutillar
(40min), Petrohué and the Saltos de Petrohué (45min;
both CH$2000), leave from San Bernardo 240, just north of
Walker Martínez; frequent minibuses to Puerto Montt
(CH$850) and the beach at Puerto Chico (CH$450) stop
along San Francisco and at Del Salvador between Santa
Rosa and San Pedro; less frequent buses to Puerto Octay
(1hr 15min) also depart here.
Tourist information The o cial Casa del Turista is found
at the foot of a pier (Muelle Piedraplan) on Av Costanera
(Mon-Fri 9.30am-6.30pm, Sat & Sun 10am-6.30pm;
T 65 237956, W puertovaras.org), though they charge for
maps. The municipal tourist o ce is at Del Salvador 320
(Mon-Fri 9.30am-6.50pm, Sat & Sun 10am-2pm &
3-7pm) - other places claiming to be a “tourist o ce” are
usually fronts for organized tours and activities.
