Almost 500km north of Antofagasta,

IQUIQUE
The approach to the busy coastal city of
Iquique is unforgettable, especially if
coming from the east. The highway along
the plateau suddenly gives way to a
spectacular 600m drop, looking down
onto the giant

sand dune
which in turn towers over the city. At
sunset, the dune and the surrounding
cliffs turn various shades of pink and red,
giving the city an almost unearthly feel.
