located in a renovated house in the heart

of the historic centre, looking onto Largo

da Ordem. The food (including Polish and

Brazilian dishes) is attractively presented

and very tasty. The delicious filet mignon

with mash and sautéed mushrooms in

Madeira wine sauce is R$69. Tues-Thurs

7.45-11pm; Fri & Sat 7.45-11.30pm.

food (the founder was Syrian), with mains starting from

R$22. If you want to try a bit of everything go for the

rodízio buffet (dinner Tues-Fri R$42.50, Sat & Sun R$45).

Belly-dancing shows feature in the evenings. Tues-Sat

11am-3pm & 6-11pm, Sun 11am-3pm.

Bar do Alemão (German bar), this pub and restaurant has

outdoor seating and a spacious, kitsch interior. A popular

evening student meeting point in Largo da Ordem, at the

heart of the old town, it serves excellent German food with

cold beer (half a litre for R$7.50). A plate of pork knuckle

and sausages for two will set you back R$36.90. Daily

11am-2am.

EATING AND DRINKING

Curitiba's prosperity and its inhabitants' diverse ethnic

origins have given rise to a good range of restaurants,

with the most interesting located in the historic centre. For

the cheapest eats check out the food court in Shopping

Estação or the Mercado Municipal, Rua Sete de Setembro

(Mon 7am-2pm, Tues-Sat 7am-6pm, Sun 7am-1pm).

offering a variable and affordable menu of German and

Brazilian dishes in quasi-Bavarian surroundings; the
