Rua das Flores
he Rua das Flores - a pedestrianized
precinct section of the Rua XV de
Novembro, lined with graceful, pastel-
coloured early twentieth-century
buildings - is the centre's main late
afternoon and early evening meeting
point. Few of the surrounding streets are
especially attractive, but the former city
hall, at Praça José Borges , across from the
flower market, is well worth a look.
Praça Tiradentes and
the historic quarter
A couple of blocks north from Rua das
Flores is Praça Tiradentes , the site where
the city was founded and home to the
neo-Gothic Catedral Basílica de Nossa
Senhora da Luz . From here a pedestrian
tunnel leads to Curitiba's historic quarter ,
an area of impeccably preserved
eighteenth- and nineteenth-century
buildings of Portuguese and central
