value, hearty Lebanese food daily. A young and humming
scene at night.

map pp.318-319. Right in front of the university, this is a
simple self-service place with good-quality Brazilian and
Lebanese food - hummus, kibe and the like. Mon-Sat
lunchtime only.
Mangai SCES, Trecho 2, Conjunto 41, Asa Sul W mangai
.com.br; map pp.318-319. A really novel spot with a
beautiful view of the Paranoá lake, seating for 800, and
hammocks waiting for you after you eat. Oh - and there's
food, too! - a good Brazilian range per quilo (you'll pay
R$25 for a decent plate), and delicious juices like cocoa,
cajá and caju . Daily lunch & dinner.

crêpes and wraps, all huge, tasty and, more importantly,
fairly priced. Mon-Sat noon-midnight (later Fri-Sat), Sun

for under R$20/person, selecting from a large menu of
vegetarian options, pastas, pizzas, and meat and fish too.

5252; map pp.318-319. This excellent pizza rodizio serves
forty different slices including dessert pizza. It's all-you-
can-eat for R$29 so you can try each kind if you dare -
though that would be some achievement.
Sabor do Brasil 302 Sul, Bloco A; map p.321. On the
edge of the centre, this place offers a bargain evening
unlimited buffet for R$22, including salads, soups,
mineira and Northeastern dishes, and fruit. There's usually
a veggie option or two. Por quilo option at lunch. Closed
Sun.

Great soup served nightly under an open tent that workers
put up and take down each night. Try the pumpkin and
gorgonzola or the verde (potato, leek and sausage).
Casa de Biscoitos Mineiros 106 Sul, Bloco A, Loja 7;
map pp.318-319. Decent bakery with bread, cakes, great
biscuits and coffee served outside at the rear. Closed Sun.
Ì Daniel Briand 104 Norte, Bloco A, Loja 26, Asa
Norte; map pp.318-319. Patisserie/teahouse serving
Brasília's best quiche. Great for coffee, cake, late weekend
breakfast or afternoon tea. Closed Mon.
Landi 405 Sul; map pp.318-319. Hot dogs are taken to a
new level here, with fresh bread and toppings including
tomato, corn and catupiry cheese. Evenings only until
11pm; closed Sat.
Rappel CLN 210, Bloco B, Loja 73 or CLS 306, Bloco B,
Loja 10; map pp.318-319. Very respectable coffee and a
good selection of sweets, salgados and ice cream. A nice
place to start the day. Closed Sun.
Saborella 112 Norte, Bloco C, Lojas 38/48; map pp.318-
319. A smart yet small modern ice-cream parlour with a
choice of exquisite flavours; you'll want to taste several
before deciding, sadly, on just two, served as standard.
Also has decent coffee. Until 10pm.
Sorbê CLN 405, Bloco C, Loja 41 or CLSW 103, Bloco A, Loja
74, Sudoeste; map pp.318-319. Artesanal sorveteria that
has exotic fruit sorbets and unusual, enticing flavours like
tapioca, toasted coconut and cheese. Until 8pm.

NIGHTLIFE
Brasília has plenty of nightlife, scattered throughout each
wing. Our list features some mainstream and other off-
the-beaten-track ideas.

Around 300 different kinds of cachaça line the walls of
this cachaçeria with funky music and plenty of narghile
smoke. Terrific on Sat, when drinks are half price. Local
media folks love this place, and the other nearby bars, too.

Arena do Forró Setor de Clubes Norte, Trecho 3 (next to

Since its relocation in 2011, Arena do Forró is still the place
for those who love swing from the Brazilian northeast.
Every Thurs and other nights as advertised on the website,

music from samba to jazz. 9am-2am, Mon til 6pm only.
Beirute 109 Sul, Bloco A, lojas 2/4 and 107 Norte, Bloco D,
lojas 19/29; map pp.318-319. Two branches of this
all-ages institution where you'll have to wait for a table;
the Asa Sul bar has been open for 44 years. Try the best
kibe (Lebanese lamb) in Brasília, and the mandatory

so ourselves; a small, cosy restaurant
hidden at the back of a block in the Asa
Norte. Distinctly Brazilian yet with French
bistro touches. For lunch enjoy a daily
special or delicious steak with chocolate
sauce and red wine reduction (R$38),
while the barbecue ribs (R$28) are a high
point of lunch or dinner. Classic
cheesecake for dessert is mouthwatering
