Bash and Crash Ingavi 861 T 02 2280934, W bashandcrash
backpackers.com; map p.167. Less slickly managed than the
foreign-owned hostels, but part of its appeal is that it is run
by a team of welcoming locals. The site - a huge nineteenth-
century house - has a ramsh ackle cha rm. Peñ a Mural is in the
same building. Dorms B$49 , doubles B$144
La Casa Colonial C Colombia 314 T 02 2480430; map

Fuentes Linares 988 T 02 2334145; map p.167. Nicely

Lion Palace Hostel C Linares 1017 T 02 2900454; map
p.167. Not a hostel in the backpacker sense - this side of
the Prado has none - but arguably the best of the budget
hotels in the area, with a fresh feel despite the ol d coloni al
setting. Book ahead. Breakfast included. Doubles B$140

W hostalmaya.com; map p.167. Tucked within one of the
many warren-like mini shopping arcades hereabouts,

shipshape mattresses, and free all-you-can-eat breakfasts,

of the snugg er Wild Rover 's. Advance booking advisable.

Wild Rover Comercio 1476 T 02 2116903, W wildrover
hostels.com; map p.167. The beating heart of this hostel
is its bar - non-drinkers may feel a little alien - but the

the hostel's oth er asp ects are n eglecte d - this is a tightly
run ship. Dorms B$45 , doubles B$150
Ì TREAT YOURSELF
It's only a half-hour walk or ten-minute taxi
ride from the Prado, but the middle-class
neighbourhood of Sopocachi feels utterly
cocooned from the hectic central area.
These two Sopocachi options will bust the
budget, but they're worth it.
