OSB Requirements
There are some requirements that you need to meet on each host that will be associated
with the individual OSB host installs:
Each host must be running TCP/IP on the domain.
Each IP address must be statically assigned, or the DHCP server should be configured
to assign the same address to the hosts in the domain.
Within the OSB domain to be defined, the hostnames must be unique.
If you are running on Linux systems, then the SCSI generic driver needs to be installed.
You will need to install OSB on each node of any RAC cluster.
OSB Install
Installing OSB involves the following high-level steps:
1. Download the software.
2. Install the administrator software.
3. Install the media server software.
4. Install the clients.
You can download the OSB software from Oracle's download site quite easily. No
license is required to download or install the software.
1. Create a directory in which to install OSB, and then download the software into that
directory.
2. Uncompress the download images into the install directory you created.
3. Run the setup command to start the setup process.
The setup program will then start the installob program, which is the main program
that is used to install OSB.
The setup program will ask you a number of questions to define the various configura-
tion settings. These include passwords, what components to install (you could install
all of the components on the same host if you want), the encryption key, and any tape
libraries that you might want to connect to.
Once you've answered the prompts, OSB will be installed on the selected host.
4. When first installing OSB in your environment, install the server first so you can get
access to the OSB web tool, which will allow you to configure OSB.
OSB Configuration
Once the administrative server is installed, you should be able to connect to the associ-
ated administrative server with your web browser at the web location indicated during the
install. Within the web server interface, you can create OSB users, add hosts, configure
backups, configure OEM for OSB usage, and define OSB targets.
