There are often cases when you are working under an extremely tight timeline, and you must finish the
sculpture and have it painted in a matter of hours. If you skip any step in the process, do not skip refining
the form. Given the choice between form and detail, sacrifice the details, as they do little to sell the realism
or beauty of the sculpture, while the form is part of what makes it come to life. A colleague of mine from
the Gnomon School of Visual Effects, John Brown, one of the best figurative sculpture professors I have
ever met, has a wonderful method of breaking down the hierarchy of form. I will try to do it justice here
but I highly recommend his DVD series, available from www.figuresandfocus.com , which has some of the
