The most famous application of the golden rectangle to design is Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man .
This famous image shows Leonardo applying the golden rectangle to the proportions of the human body
( Figure 4-20 ) . Here we see the height of the person was divided into two segments at the navel. By dividing
the distance from the bottom of the feet to the navel by the distance from the navel to the top of the head,
we get the golden mean. Renaissance artists sometimes called this number the divine proportion because of
its presence throughout nature and close association with the depiction of beauty and proportional harmony.
