methods to dispose of highly radioactive either technologically or socially.
The growth in emissions from other countries however means that Japan re-
mains in fifth position in the amount of CO 2 emitted (Table 2.5 ). These global emis-
sions continue to increase the CO 2 concentration in the atmosphere, which passed
400 ppm in 2013—a level not reached for almost 1 million years.
