Seagate and Western Digital introduced the first 3TB drives (external and internal, respectively). In
late 2011, Seagate was the first to ship a 4TB external drive, followed by Hitachi with the first 4TB
internal drive. These new high-capacity drives store data at areal densities of 600Gb/sq. inch or
higher.
