Socket AM2/AM2+/AM3/AM3+
In May 2006, AMD introduced processors that use a new socket, called Socket AM2 (see Figure
3.19 ). AM2 was the first replacement for the confusing array of Socket 754, Socket 939, and Soc ket
940 form factors for the Athlon 64, Athlon 64 FX, and Athlon 64 X2 processors.
