Preparing a Modular Power Supply
If you have a modular power supply (that is, one that uses detachable cables to provide power to
different mixtures of PCIe, SATA, and PATA hard or floppy disks), such as the one shown in Figure
19.22 , you need to determine the power connectors you need and attach the appropriate modular
power leads. For example, if the power supply has a built-in PCIe x16 connector for a high-
performance video card, but you are using two cards that require additional power, connect a
modular PCIe x16 power lead. If the power supply does not have built-in leads for SATA or PATA
drives, connect the appropriate leads. Figure 19.22 shows a modular power supply with two modular
leads connected: one for PCIe x16 and one for SATA drives.
